Imploding Concepts
We’re living at an unprecedented time when long-held, traditional constructs in how we think, what we do, how we do it – are under siege. More and more people, certainly since the onslaught of Covid and all that it catalyzed, are feeling – knowing – that the old ways of seeing/doing “life,” the traditional binary (right/wrong, black/white, mine/yours, his/hers, she/he, young/old) approaches, are no longer working. In ALL aspects of society. And it’s scaring the shit out of many. When we were told and/or believed in, those belief systems are falling apart, particularly when this is visibly unfolding before our eyes, people generally go (running?) in either of two directions.
Either trying to hold on for dear life to the old paradigms that are already crumbling, or they dive in and deeply embrace the new. Polarization pulls us in one direction or another…not into the grey, the spectrum of possibilities. Just black or white. Often no middle way. As Michael Singer writes in The Untethered Soul, “All the great teachings reveal the way of the center, the way of balance. Constantly look to see if that’s where you are living or are lost in the extremes. The extremes create opposites; the wise avoid them. Find the balance in the center and you will live in harmony.”
