The Curly Monologues is a big idea that transcends simply hair. It’s got its own stories and consciousness (“Don’t think straight and narrow, think Curly!” or “Life isn’t a straight line, it’s Curly”). What started out as snippets of wisdom and perspective from CurlyGirls (often on the Streets of NYC), transformed into live theater shows where women/girls perform their own stories that they have written, then crafted, and presented in a curated, ensemble of Personal Storytelling that have attracted audiences from Coast-to-Coast.
The Curly Monologues is a dynamic vehicle to bring people together in ways that transcend age, race, ethnicity, sexual identity, gender, geography, political affiliation. The Tribe of Curly. Focusing on our similarities, more than on our differences. Everyone just wants to belong (and, to many Tribes, most probably). To be Seen. To be Gotten. That’s what ULM is all about.
